Don Avery’s main passion is art, and that’s why he loves the food industry, he believes there are more creative “Artisans” in this industry than any other, especially when it comes to bakers, patissiers & chefs.
Having spent much of his youth in the historic buildings of "Montsalvat" artist colony, and being surrounded by creators of art in all their forms was an awe-inspiring way to start life. Apart from the art, Montsalvat hosted amazing feasts and banquets which created his desire for extravagant foods.
Throughout his life, Don has always loved cooking, experimenting with food, dining in fine restaurants, and associating himself with chefs. His experience in the industry was escalated by means of being the manager for a food equipment importer, in-store demonstrating for major department stores, managing a health food supermarket, and owning 2 corporate catering firms.
His vast knowledge of the food industry eventually landed him positions as editor for a number of bakery and foodservice publications. It is here he found his niche and went on to becoming a publisher and editor of his own successful industry magazines.
For the past 18 years, he has enjoyed keeping the food industry updated with relevant information, involving himself with events and competitions. His key focus has always been and still is, the importance of educating and promotion towards young people as they are the future of our industry.
