For the first time, Tiptree World Bread Awards with Food is GREAT is coming to New York, to celebrate the very best American bread bakers
The Awards, now in their sixth year, are the top annual competition for professional bakers in the United Kingdom, and Caroline Kenyon, Founder/Director, was inspired to bring them to the US after coming to a family wedding in New York in the summer of 2016.
“On our first night, we went to a small neighbourhood restaurant in Park Slope where the waitress brought us some focaccia and olive oil. It was quite simply the best focaccia I have ever tasted! So the idea was planted, that we should bring the Awards to New York.”
The Awards will have 12 categories, from sourdough to baguette and bagel. The Judging Day will take place at the Dumbo Loft, Brooklyn on Tuesday 23 October 2018 where a panel of 40 judges will taste and debate their way through all the entries.
The judges will include legendary New York baker and James Beard Foundation Award nominee Zachary Golper of Bien Cuit, top British artisan baker Aidan Monks of Lovingly Artisan in the Lake District, Dana Cowin, renowned food editor, and New York’s top foodie instagrammer Alexa Mehraban, of EatingNYC
There will be a fabulous Awards evening for all the Finalists at Landmark on the Park in November, to mingle with VIPs of the press, baking and foodie world.
Headline sponsor is Tiptree, suppliers of jam to Her Majesty the Queen who have been fruit farming since 1757 and jam making since 1885. Supporting headline sponsor is Food is GREAT, the UK government campaign for the very best of British produce.
